Great Resource! (print too small)
But unfortunately, the print in the field version is too small. My old man eyes can’t read it. (I gave the book away to a young man who is the comms person for our co-op). I plan on buying the full-size book version and really hope the font is bigger!
And thanks for all you are doing to resource our community.
James Addison (verified owner) –

Easily understood for a bandwidth novice like myself. Its isn’t Shakespeare, thank God.

Received two of the full size and not the spiral bound field size for the sale price of the field guide. Still happy with what I received just wanted to bring it to your attention if you wanted to correct it or have me exchange for the field guides.

2nd Time Purchasing this Guide
Purchased for a new prospective G.I. The Army is good at giving you the basic operations of a particular radio but not much on theory. This book provides a great overview of comsec, antenna theory, and numerous other factors that can be used regardless of the type of system.

Field guide, how Guerillas carry manuals
I have the full size version of this awesome book but wanted a smaller version to put into my HSGI Warlord chest rig.
This is spot on, sits great next to my Ranger Handbook so now I can hit the woods in comfort knowing there is knowledge stashed away in case I need it.

NC Scout Appalachistan RTO Field Manual
Like fine fiddle music to my ears and sweet potato pie to my taste buds, washed down with ambrosia. This 4x6x0.5” Brushbeater manual will expand your communication abilities in the field. Written in honor of Army Sgt. 1st Class Samuel Hairston and NC Scout’s late father.

Ranger Medic Handbook
This a great product. Stop reading about it and buy it now. Very good to have in your kit or bag.
The Dude (verified owner) –
Very informative and if you have Baofang UV5R this is a must. Allows the owner to program and understand how to run your devices while adhering to opsec.
Daniel Tisron (verified owner) –
Compact good print size
The field version on the guide to the baofeng has bigger print than the other field versions of different topics sold by Brushbeater. I recommend this. I felt like I got my money’s worth from this, lots of good information compact size. I would like to mention however that the other field guides aren’t worth a darn unless you have a magnifying glass because the print is so small and brushbeater doesn’t do exchanges or refunds. So I wouldn’t buy any of the other field versions of old army manuals sold here. But they did get this one right, the margins aren’t too big and the text isn’t too small.

Dorian Adamik (verified owner) –
Great reference book
I ordered the spiral bound version, it’s a great reference tool and easy to keep nearby. The book not only helps you realize the full potential of baofeng radios, but really illustrates off grid comms in general. Would be great for beginners and experienced users.
David Jones (verified owner) –

Great manual
Easy to read and digest. I got a pair of baofengs to tinker around with. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to learn about communications. I bought because of what’s happening in the mountains of wnc. Only thing I was say is make a field version with lamenated pages. Thank for for fast delivery and the knowledge you passed along in the book!
Aceman1126 (verified owner) –
Great resource
This book is a fantastic resource not only for people new to baofeng radios but new to the radio communications world in general. Not only does it cover how to use and program the baofengs but just as importantly how to use them effectively in either tactical or emergency situations.
I’d recommend getting both the full size book and the small pocket edition because the bigger book will be much easier to read and study at your leisure, and the small book can be more easily stashed with a radio in a go bag or be handed to a friend/loved one in an emergency to get them up to speed.
All in all it’s the best resource available for the most common radio out there and well worth having.

Exactly what you need!
I purchased the field copy of the Guide to put in my pack. I have the standard copy for the shelf. The Guide is straightforward, no-nonsense and step-by-step. Exactly what you need to know, and how to get it done!
Andy Noble (verified owner) –
Enjoying, however…
Great read so far. Barely have my toe dipped into this but suspect incredible info. Will likely come back to it again and again. Text is way small on the pocket edition but working that out in a few different ways.
Joshua Roberts (verified owner) –
Great Resource
The guide is a excellent, gives you an easy reference for your radio.
Richard Acuti (verified owner) –
There’s always more to learn.
Although I have extensive RF experience, Brushbeater’s Guide still provided a wealth of information that I was lacking that I have incorporated into my signal plans. The compact field guide is a must-have.
Andrew (verified owner) –
Ton of info in a small size
I have the full size book, but this one is perfect to throw in the radio bag. Made with quality materials. This is the one you want.
William Taylor (verified owner) –

Guerilla’s Guide to the Baofeng Radio – Field Version
Perfect for your pack.
Blue Collared American Patriot (verified owner) –
Very Helpful!
I have several UV5R’s and have been using them throughout the years using Chirp to program them. This manual explains a much easier way to set up the radios while in the field. I recently purchased a couple of AR-152’s before the Hurricane in North Carolina and was eventually going to use Chirp on these, but found this guide. This guide explains EVERYTHING about what I originally was planning on using these radio’s for. Emergency comms with family. Thank you Brushbeater!
Richard Johnson (verified owner) –
Good size to carry and gives more info than I need
Mark Weaver (verified owner) –
Great Backup
Full sized version is great and what I am using to learn to set up and use my UB-5R, but I’m a novice so I wanted something for the go bag and the field version is perfect. Icing on the cake….Matt is a great guy. Extremely knowledgeable and helpful!
Nick B (verified owner) –
Great resource
Great resource for basic radio operations. This will be super useful in a grid down or civil unrest situation.
Timothy DiGennaro (verified owner) –
Thank you for creating a simple, concise, and extremely informative guide. You have opened a door to the advancement of knowledge and it’s appreciated. Fast shipment as well. Definitely will be making more purchases in the near future.

Must have guide for the Baofeng
If you own a set of Baofeng radios you should consider purchasing this guide. It is well worth the money. It is very well written and steps you through the many functions available in this radio. I highly recommend this guide.
Michael Tucker (verified owner) –
Fantastic guide!
Succinct and very informative, everything you need to know.
Annie Smith (verified owner) –
Guerrilla’s Guide to the Baofeng Radio
It seemed a little less sturdy than expected. Pages were very thin and I’m worried they will tear easily when
Flipping through it. I went directly to page 12 to program nonregulated frequencies but still needed the video from X (Twitter) ro program radio. I haven’t been through the entire guide but I’m sure it’s informative.
Billy Kurilko (verified owner) –
Excellent resource
This is a great guide even for a licensed ham. Tons of cool build plans and techniques in there. The instructions are concise and well thought-out, really is informative on how to get the most out of these radios. Bought one manual as a Christmas gift and an extra for myself and I’m glad I did. Always a fan of spiral binding and a compact field manual, this already lives in my radio bag.
The only thing I might change is the addition of some tabbed pages to quickly jump to sections, though that’s easily added on your own and I set up some additional bookmarks anyway. The font size is fairly small as others have mentioned, but with nice wide line spacing I don’t find it hard to read. It’s comparable in size to the smaller icons on the Baofeng display, so if you can see those to operate the radio then you can read this manual.
Colin Ward (verified owner) –
It was 2022 an i bought a Baofeng.
I received it and had no idea what to do with it. I finally ordered this manual from the advice of Richard Grove, and now I’m a airwave rockstar.
Joseph Dennis (verified owner) –
Perfect size
I bought the full size version when it first came out but find myself constantly referencing it and the size isn’t convenient. The field version is way handy! Thanks Scout.
Matthew Seguin (verified owner) –
Thanks Scout

Skip the All in One type radio books
Skip the All in One radio books. I know for buying the wrong ones two yrs ago then I bought the shelf version of The Guerrilla’s Guide to the Baofeng about a yr ago. World of difference!! Recently bought the field version, same! I don’t need all the fluff in the other books; ie. basic survival, history lessons or what to put in my EDC. I need to know the ins and out of my equipment, specific applications and field antenna/SITCOM adaptation and so on. I found exactly what I needed in the publication from NC Scout. One thing to be mindful of, the field version is in a smaller font, compact size for a field use. Another winner!

Go Big & Go Small
Purchased both the full size and the field manual size The Guerrilla’s Guide to the Baofeng Radio. One to read & study at home / work, the smaller version I keep in my radio / back pack. Licensed ham & GMRS radio operator, so much to learn. The Guerrilla’s Guide to the Baofeng Radio Is an excellent resource! Highly recommend!

The Guerrilla’s Guide to the Baofeng Radio – Field Version,
In my humble opinion this is an amazing reference guide to add to your kit. great for when your drawing a blank or giving someone a crash course on radio operation.

Incredible resource! As an old commo dude in the guard, I’m constantly looking for ways to improve and simplify my “classes” as well as reinforce the things that I have forgotten. Thank you for what you do, Scout!

If you have the larger version you still need this.
I’ve read the original GG several times and have it all marked up. I have several of these smaller top spiral bound books for field use. They are in all the get home bags in the family vehicles. I don’t necessarily need them as I’m pretty deep in the info but me family and friends benefit from them. If you have a Baofeng in your get home bag or bug out bag and you aren’t supremely confident in its use do yourself a HUGE favor and throw this in there too.

Complete and Handy
This is, to me, a very handy guide to have and is small enough to carry with me in the console of my truck or SxS. I will see how it stands up to my less than graceful handling.
Barry Frederick (verified owner) –
Glad I got it.
I’ve been looking for something like this for sometime.
Customer (verified owner) –
I haven’t finished reading yet, but this breaks down the language/lingo of radio so that the common man can comprehend it. Not only that, but it explains everything in a way so you can actually utilize the skills, know the different purposes for a radio, and what level of security comes with each purpose. Can’t wait to finish reading, keep fighting the good fight!
Nicholas Crawford (verified owner) –
Great source
This book has already been a great source of knowledge to me. Im getting into radios as a beginner and its already helped me identify what i need to get learning more. Great job!
larry allgood (verified owner) –
I should have ordered the regular book size. The print in this one is so small that I can barely read it.
Mike Langley (verified owner) –
