The 3-9x40, the legendary white tail deer scope, made better for today's Rifleman.
Ask any deer hunter what scope they have on their rifle and the answer is most likely to be a 3-9x40. Its been the hunter's standard for longer than most have been alive. And for good reason - its enough magnification to tackle nearly any task expected of it. Bright enough for early morning or late dusk hunts, enough magnification to identify your game and enough on the low end for making snap shots on man drives. Above all, its simple, rigged, lightweight and inexpensive.
That's why the earliest Sniper rifles fielded in Vietnam, mostly Winchester model 70s commercially procured by the Marines who carried them, were most often equipped with a 3-9x40. Times may have changed drastically since those days but the utility of that optic and the role it played certainly lives on.
The MOA-Dot Reticle
The 3-9x40 features an MOA-Dot reticle with each hash mark representing 2.5 MOA while the numbers represent tens (1=10, 2=20 MOA, so on). Its simple reticle that allows for range finding as well as using hold overs for any caliber and any barrel length.
We took the standard and raised the bar. A 3-9x40 second focal plane, Japanese glass, a 30mm tube, an etched MOA reticle, and external locking turrets that sit low to the tube. They won't get snagged on low brush during a stalk, and an optic you can depend on no matter what game your chasing. Rugged, simple, affordable.
