They’re actually quite sturdy, I’ve landed on mine hard a couple of times and it’s still kicking. Unfortunately that goes both ways and almost took my eye out one slip. When not in use, I keep it in the original packaging near the frame of my ruck to protect it from the elements and protect my face from the wrath of the Nagoya.
